AWHO or Army Welfare Housing Organization is an organization that functions on no profit no loss basis. With quality housing at affordable cost, the mission of the organization is to provide functionally efficient housing units to serving or retired members of the army people and their widows. The aim of AWHO is to deliver high class construction with a friendly ambience to its consumers. The eligibility criteria in order to apply for a dwelling unit through this organization are framed by the State governments, Housing boards which work for the development of land for housing or construction of houses in a state. The eligible applicants will be offered only with one unit of plot or dwelling unit. The types of housing units offered by AWHO include – penthouses (duplex type), luxury apartments, super deluxe apartments, deluxe apartments, modern apartments and small family apartments. The plans and specifications involved in the construction of these houses conform to the statutory regulations which are laid down by the civil authorities. Once the dwelling units are handed over, the individual needs to become member of its Welfare maintenance society which is registered under the societies registration act. These welfare maintenance societies will be responsible for the maintenance of the basic infrastructure of the township which includes generators, lifts, parks, roads etc.Any eligible person can apply for these dwelling units in different ways. The application form can be obtained by sending a DD in favor of MD, AWHO; cash payment from HR AWHO office or AWHO project office or by downloading the application from the AWHO website.
